Touch panel Samsung Galaxy S3 thinner than ever

The Samsung Galaxy S3 may not be launching at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) this month but further details about this touch panel superphone have emerged.
Reports in the Electronic Times News, which is based in Samsung's native South Korea, reveal the Galaxy S3 will be just seven millimetres thick, which makes it slimmer than last year's Galaxy S2 and even Apple's iPhone 4S.
The slim design is facilitated in part by the Super AMOLED Plus touch panel display, which will be onboard the Galaxy S3. A move to printed circuit boards has also helped Samsung to shave 20 per cent off the phone's thickness.
Of course if the Galaxy S3 does arrive with a seven millimetre waistline then it will still play second fiddle to Huawei's recently launched Ascend P1 S, which is just three tenths of a millimetre thinner.
The Galaxy S3 is likely to feature a quad core CPU, along with version 4.0 of the Android operating system, so in all respects, it will be a flagship handset in 2012. Whether or not it is able to entice Apple fans away from the iPhone this year remains to be seen.
