ZTE announces affordable touch panel Android 4.0 handset

Wednesday, 22 February 2012 10:33:39 GMT

It looks as though people who want to get to grips with Android 4.0, Google's latest mobile operating system, will not have to pay through the nose, thanks to a new smartphone announced by Chinese manufacturer, ZTE.

While ZTE is usually found working at the entry level end of the market, its freshly announced Mimosa X handset looks like it will be a relatively capable device, even if its capabilities do put it in the mid range category.

A dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor will be galloping along under its skin, while a 4.3 inch touch panel display with a solid resolution of 940x540 will dominate the front face of the phone.

A five megapixel camera on the rear and 4GB of storage space onboard, indicate that the Mimosa X is not the most powerful or feature-packed Android handset on the market. However, the fact that it will launch with Android 4.0 straight out of the box is good news.

Google's new mobile OS focuses more on touch panel interaction than any of the previous iterations, removing the need for physical menu buttons as had been the case in the past.
